6,2 – Point Guard – Kentucky
Wildcat fans have come to expect instant success from their young guards and so there’s been plenty of pressure on Teague. He hasn’t had the type of season many expected but he’s still a high level prospect and future first rounder.
Pros
A true point guard who puts the team first. Very heady player who knows the game inside and out (his older brother Jeff plays in the NBA) and makes good decisions on the floor. Very quick with the ball and is a blur in the open court and finds teammates well. Pesky defender who plays the passing lanes well and uses his quickness to pressure the ball well.
Good scorer in the lane and has a great first step to get by defenders. Nasty crossover, step-back moves and hesitation dribble. Nice looking outside shot and has a chance to be dangerous from three point range. Gets good elevation on his jumper, has a high release point and is difficult to block. Nice mid-range and step back jumper. Has good explosiveness and can rise up for dunks or hang in the air long enough to find a teammate.
Cons
Not a John Wall type of athlete and has only average strength. Good form on his jumper but needs to hit at a more consistent rate from outside. Shooting only about 40% from the field and 30% from three point range. Gets flustered too easily on the court and shows too much immaturity.
Projection: Top 20 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft or 2013
