Josh Smith Scouting Report

AP

6,10 – Center – Georgetown

Josh Smith is an enormous player (6,10 – 305) who provides a unique physical presence in the lane. Has a developing skill set and is working to get into basketball shape.

Pros

Impossible to move off the low block and can get any position he wants in the paint. Solid rebounder who boxes out well and snatches the ball well with his huge hands (bigger than Kawhi Leonards hands?).  His size is also an advantage when it comes to guarding the low block and he is tough to get around or to back down.

Actually has a fairly soft touch and uses the glass well to score from in close. Looks capable of becoming a decent mid range shooter but has yet to show much offense outside the paint. Plays with good aggressiveness and gets a good number of steals.  Know his limits and plays his role.

Cons

Needs to get in playing shape and does not (yet) look ready to run in the NBA. Not a very good shot blocker and is a below the basket type of player. A bit foul prone and needs to make better decisions on defense. Needs to cut down on turnovers and become a better free throw shooter (61% last season).

Projection: Second round pick in 2015
