Draft Notes

A special talent. Tre Johnson is one of the top prospects in the draft and might be the best pure scorer in the class.

Johnson is a shot-maker through and through. He can get hot from deep, has a spicy mid range game and just knows how to put the ball in the basket. He’s got good handles and is so good with his pace and stop/start ability that he can get by defenders and shake free for jumpers, even though he doesn’t have elite burst or quickness.

While he might not be a freak athlete he’s got plenty of bounce to play above the rim and speed in the open court. He’s got a deep bag and can get into the lane but doesn’t finish well through contact and tends to fade away or avoid contact. As he gets stronger he should improve with his at-the-rim finishing.

He plays more of a skill-based game, not a game based on overwhelming size/speed. He’s just a really, really good basketball player.

While he can be a bit passive on the defensive end he shows some flashes and can turn up the energy when needed. Bringing more consistent defensive energy will take his game to the next level.

His scoring/shot-making ability and good size should lead to a long NBA career. He might not be a superstar at the next level based on not being an elite athlete but he’s got enough athletic tools to be a high level starter and All Star level player.
