6,2 – Point Guard – Duke
Kyrie Irving is an elite level point guard prospect and the likely #1 overall pick to the Cleveland Cavs. After a rough freshman season at Duke, which included a toe injury which kept him on the bench for much of the season, Irving is set to bring his electrifying, but inexperienced game to the NBA.
Pros
Irving is a complete point guard with a pass-first mentality and a deadly jumper to keep defenses honest. He has very good but not elite speed and athleticism with a good handle and penetrating skills. He gets into the lane and is able to get his own shot off. Very nice fadeaway from mid range and becoming a highly accurate three point shooter. His basketball IQ is very good and he seems to be a true leader on the court. Pushes the ball well on the fast break and makes good decisions. Makes teammates better with his penetrating and passing skills.
Cons
His history of injury and limited experience are concerns which could keep him from being the top pick in the draft. Having played only one partial season in the NCAA and still getting himself back into playing shape are obstacles for him to overcome. At the combine he was measured at 10% body fat so he has a ways to go before he is back in top shape.
