NBA Draft Prospect – Cory Joseph

PG – 6,3 – Texas

Joseph didn’t put up big numbers in his one season at Texas but he has a lot of traits that could make him a successful lead guard in the NBA.  He is long armed, athletic and plays with good passion and intensity.  Joseph is my sleeper pick for the 2011 draft and he even reminds me a bit of a young Russell Westbrook.

Pros

Very good size for the point guard position, with long arms and quick hands.  Tenacious defender who pressures the ball well and is disruptive in the passing lanes.  Can do a little bit of everything, rebound, defend, run the offense and hit jumpers.  He is not a great shooter at this point but has a good looking shot which should improve over the years.  Still learning to run the offense but shows all the signs of being a true point guard (despite some experts seeing him as a tweener).  Has a nice first step, a good handle and can get into the lane.  Good leaper and very quick up and down the floor.

Cons

Needs to develop more confidence in his shot and keep working on that aspect of his game.  A bit too skinny and needs to add weight and strength to compete at the next level.
