Draft Notes
Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje is a high-upside 7-footer with an intriguing combination of size, mobility, shooting touch and developing perimeter skill. He has great physical tools and is still in the early stages of putting everything together, giving him one of the higher ceilings in his age group.
For a player his size, JBB moves extremely well. He’s light on his feet, has good overall mobility and shows impressive coordination for a young 7-footer. He runs the floor well and has enough quickness to make plays away from the basket rather than being limited to a traditional low-post role.
Offensively, there’s a lot to be excited about. Boumtje Boumtje can put the ball on the floor a bit and flashes some intriguing face-up ability. He has good touch around the rim and is comfortable finishing with finesse rather than simply relying on his size.
Perhaps the most exciting development is his outside shooting. JBB is becoming a legitimate floor spacer, showing very good form and natural touch on his left-handed jumper. With his size and high release point, his shot is extremely difficult to contest, giving him the potential to develop into a major pick-and-pop threat.
Defensively, his combination of height, length and mobility gives him considerable upside as a rim protector who can also function away from the basket. He’ll need to continue adding strength and refining his defensive awareness, but the physical foundation is clearly there.
There’s still plenty of development ahead. He needs to get stronger, continue improving his handle and become more consistent on both ends, but those are understandable areas of growth for such a young big man.
NBA Draft Room Take: JBB has the makings of a modern two-way stretch big with tremendous upside. The combination of 7-foot size, mobility, touch and emerging shooting ability makes him one of the elite young prospects in the world and an early candidate to hear his name called in the lottery of the 2028 NBA Draft.
