Draft Notes
Fears has flown up draft boards this year and is on pace to be a lottery pick. After reclassifying to join the 2024 recruiting class he had a monster freshman season at Oklahoma, playing with the ball in his hands a lot and showing that he was one of the most dynamic players in college basketball.
He’s a fast, slippery and slick ball-handling guard who can really penetrate the lane and excels at drawing contact and finishing tough shots. Gets to the FT line often. Isn’t a great finisher in the lane in the half court but his ability to draw fouls makes up for it.
He’s got a really nice feel for the game and plays with great change of pace. Is a walking paint touch who can collapse the defense and set teammates up for open shots.
He’s not the most bursty or athletic guard in the world but his change of pace and knack for getting to the paint are special. And his handles are elite.
Has work to do with his outside shot. He’s a capable 3pt shooter but isn’t yet consistent enough from downtown. His good FT shooting percentage is promising and I think he’ll be a solid 3pt shooter at the NBA level.
He’s got solid size for a lead guard but doesn’t have great length or strength. Is a major liability on the defensive end and even when he adds strength he’s likely to be a bad defender.
Is strictly and on-the-ball player and will have to land in a situation where he can be the primary initiator.
