NBA Draft Prospect Jeff Withey
7-0 – Center – Kansas
Withey came on strong in his junior season, after being stuck behind the Morris twins and not seeing much playing time as a Freshman and Sophomore. A lean and athletic shot blocker with a rapidly improving game.
Pros
Withey has great timing on defense and is a superb shot blocker. Elevates very quickly and can guard well above the rim. Great weak-side shot blocker and help defender who averaged 3.6 blocks a game as a Junior. Solid rebounder who should continue to improve on the boards.
Very good free throw shooter and shows decent form on his mid range jumper. Likely to develop into a consistent threat from mid range. Runs the floor very well and is a good finisher on the fast break.
Cons
Lacks power and strength and will get pushed around a bit at the NBA level. Doesn’t have a frame that can add a ton of weight and will always need to rely on his quickness. Can get out of position going after shot blocks and needs to do a better job of staying on his man and boxing out.
Projection: late first round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft
