Draft Notes
Hugo Yimga Moukouri is a powerful and explosive forward with an NBA-level frame and a ton of physical upside. He has broad shoulders, good length and an impressive combination of strength, speed and vertical athleticism. He’s still raw from a skill standpoint, but he’s also very young and has plenty of time to round out his game.
Offensively, Yimga Moukouri does most of his damage using his physical tools. He runs the floor extremely well, gets out in transition and can be a nightmare to stop once he gets moving downhill. He has easy above-the-rim ability and is an explosive finisher who can overpower defenders around the basket.
His combination of strength and burst gives him considerable potential as a slasher and transition scorer.
The perimeter game is the biggest area for development. He’s not a great outside shooting threat at this point and will need to improve both his jumper and overall perimeter skill set to maximize his potential. He has shown really nice improvements in his outside shooting over the past couple of seasons and there’s a lot of reason to believe he’ll become a solid threat from downtown.
There’s also room for growth as a ball-handler, passer and overall decision-maker. Right now his athletic ability is ahead of his skill level, but that’s not unusual for a prospect of this archetype.
NBA Draft Room Take: Yimga Moukouri is very much an upside play. The NBA frame, speed, strength and explosiveness are already there. If his shooting, handle and overall feel for the game catch up with his physical gifts, he has a chance to develop into a dynamic two-way NBA forward.
