NBA DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT
Draft Notes
Derrick Alston Jr. is a tall, skinny and talented wing player who flashes big time ability. After flirting with the 2020 draft he chose to stay at Boise for his senior year and try to raise his draft stock.
Alston stands out on the court thanks to his great movement and ball skills in a long, 6-9 frame. He needs to add weight and become a more efficient shooter from downtown but the tools are all there to work with.
He’s got decent handles and a quick first step and he really shows off his length on drives to the rim.
He can hit the 3pt shot but he has a long, slow windup with a bit of a hitch in his shot. NBA coaches should help clean this up and his 3pt shooting projects as at least average, with a chance to develop into a strength.
Alston is an older prospect, born in 1997, so some of his upside has already been reached.
