Draft Notes

A lights out shooter with a quick release who can play on or off the ball. Simons is one of the best outside shooters to come along in years. He’s still rounding out the rest of his game but he has an elite skill in shooting the rock.

Strengths
Getting buckets. Simons is a deadly outside shooter who has added a strong dribble drive to his game and is able to score from three levels. His improved strength and athleticism have opened up his game and made him into a complete offensive player. Shooting will always be his biggest strength but now he’s able to keep defenses honest with his driving ability.

Simons can play on or off the ball and is a good fit for today’s NBA in which players are asked to do it all, and shooting is at a premium. He might not have the most pure point guard instincts but he’s very capable of running the show, bringing the ball up against pressure and collapsing the defense. He’s got high level quickness, good ball-handing and some blow-by ability.

He’s begun to fill out his frame and add the necessary strength to compete at the highest levels. He’s a capable above the rim player who can finish at the rim.

As a three point shooter Simons stands out for his accuracy, his confidence shooting the rock, and his lightening quick release. He’s the type of player that can get his shot off if you give him just a sliver of daylight, and once he gets going he can stay really hot and put up big numbers.

A decent rebounder for a guard who drops into the lane on defense and helps battle for boards.

Weaknesses
Lacks big time strength and elite measurables. Is a bit undersized for the 2 guard position.

Comparisons

  • Has some D’Angelo Russell in his game
  • and a little hint of Markelle Fultz.
